Refunds

Issue full or partial refunds against approved or settled payments.

A refund reverses a payment and returns funds to the customer's original payment method. For linked payments, the associated invoice returns to an unpaid state once the refund is processed. Refunds cannot be undone once issued.

Refund Types

Paisr supports two types of refunds:

  • Full refund — reverses the entire payment amount. The payment status changes to refunded.
  • Partial refund — reverses a portion of the payment. The payment status reflects the partial reversal. Partial refunds may not be available for all payment methods.

Issuing a Refund

You can issue refunds from the Payments section in your dashboard or through the API.

Dashboard: Navigate to Payments → select a payment → Refund.

curl -X POST "https://api.live.paisr.tech/v2/payments/{payment_id}/refund" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer <token>" \
  -H "User-Agent: MyApp/1.0" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
  "note": "Customer requested cancellation"
}'

The note field is required and is recorded against the payment for audit purposes.

Eligibility

A refund can only be issued against a payment in approved or settled state. Payments that are not in these states cannot be refunded, a pending payment can be cancelled instead.

Refund availability also depends on the payment method. Please refer to the Payment Methods section for more details.

Settlement Impact

When a refund is issued:

  1. The payment status changes to refunded.
  2. For linked payments, the associated invoice returns to unpaid and a new payment can be collected.
  3. The refunded amount is debited from your wallet balance. If the balance is insufficient, the refund is held until sufficient funds are available.

Refund Webhooks

Subscribe to the payment.refunded event to receive a notification when a refund is processed. See the Webhooks guide for details on signature verification and event handling.
