Managing Balances

Learn how to open, fund, and manage wallet balances in Paisr.

A balance is a currency-denominated store of funds within a wallet. Each balance is backed by a treasurer account at a partner bank and behaves like a simplified account — you can send, receive, and hold funds, but it does not provide access to named IBANs or credit facilities. Business balance IDs are prefixed with bca_.

Paisr supports two balance types:

  • Primary — used for day-to-day spending and receiving money. One primary balance per currency.
  • Saving — used to set funds aside. You can open an unlimited number of saving balances.

Opening a Balance

You can open balances from the Balances section of your wallet in the dashboard or by using the Balances API. Paisr currently supports the following currencies:

CurrencyDescription
SRDSuriname Dollar
USDUS Dollar
EUREuro

Dashboard: Navigate to the wallet → Balances → New Balance, choose a currency and type, give it a title, and click Open.

curl -X POST "https://api.live.paisr.tech/v2/wallets/{wallet_id}/balances" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer <token>" \
  -H "User-Agent: MyApp/1.0" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
  "title": "SRD Revenue",
  "currency": "SRD",
  "type": "primary"
}'

Updating a Balance

You can rename a balance at any time.

Dashboard: Navigate to the wallet → Balances → select the balance → Rename.

curl -X PUT "https://api.live.paisr.tech/v2/wallets/{wallet_id}/balances/{balance_id}" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer <token>" \
  -H "User-Agent: MyApp/1.0" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
  "title": "SRD Operations"
}'

Closing a Balance

A balance must be at zero before it can be closed. Once closed, it cannot be reopened.

Dashboard: Navigate to the wallet → Balances → select the balance → Close Balance.

curl -X DELETE "https://api.live.paisr.tech/v2/wallets/{wallet_id}/balances/{balance_id}" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer <token>" \
  -H "User-Agent: MyApp/1.0"

Funding a Balance

Bank Deposits

Transfer funds from your local bank to the treasurer account details attached to your balance.

  1. In the dashboard, open the balance and click Deposit.
  2. Use the provided account number and bank details to send a transfer from your bank.
  3. Once the funds arrive they are credited to your balance automatically.

Bank deposits can take up to 5 business days to arrive. The transfer must originate from an account in your name.

Peer-to-Peer (P2P)

Ask a contact already on Paisr to send funds directly to your wallet. Share your cashtag and the funds will arrive in seconds.

Card Deposits

Deposit funds using a credit or debit card directly from the dashboard. Your card details are stored securely so future deposits are one-click.

Card deposits are currently in beta and may not be available for all wallets.

Retrieving Balances

List all balances for a wallet, optionally filtered by type or currency:

curl -X GET "https://api.live.paisr.tech/v2/wallets/{wallet_id}/balances?type=primary&currency=SRD" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer <token>" \
  -H "User-Agent: MyApp/1.0"

Retrieve a specific balance to see its running and holding amounts:

curl -X GET "https://api.live.paisr.tech/v2/wallets/{wallet_id}/balances/{balance_id}" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer <token>" \
  -H "User-Agent: MyApp/1.0"

The response includes a balance.running figure (available to spend) and a balance.holding figure (funds reserved for pending transfers).
